The sculpted landscape of Thiérache

Isolated landscape, the Thiérache was an enclave in front of the tumult shaking its neighboring territories. Its green expanses acted as a border, its grasslands, and groves as far as the eye could see allowed the development of agriculture. The local heritage is preserved in domains, such as dairy production, cider and maroilles manufactures.

The graziers of Thiérache have “sculpted” this landscape on all sides. The hedges delimiting the meadows have provided shelter and protection to our Thiérachian ancestors for centuries. These colorful landscapes clash with the austerity of the cob-, brick-, and slate-made farms and buildings, relics of the past century. At the turn of the villages, the numerous wash houses remain the vestiges of women condition.
